A Heart for Healing - Why I Chose Share in the JOY

By: Tess Favazza, Treasurer

As a young woman, I found myself a victim of domestic violence and am humbled by the support and encouragement I received from friends and family to walk away before that was no longer an option.  Walking away brought me a sense of safety, but also added stress, financial uncertainty and the inability to trust easily. Through hard work and determination, I was able to gain confidence and eventually began to love who I was and not the person I was perceived as through the eyes of my abuser.

One of the many reasons I chose to support and become an integral part of Share in the JOY was to do my part to help others who were violated and needed encouragement, support and guidance to make a fresh start and eventually love themselves so that they would someday be willing to open their hearts to others.

One of Share in the JOY’s primary focus is on the support of Children exposed to domestic violence as well as those in foster care.  I enjoy seeing the smiles and the love in the eyes of these children who have been uprooted from their lives in some way.  There are many activities and events that are aimed at supporting these children, the largest being HoliJOY.  HoliJOY was my first big event as a volunteer and board member, and it was so very special.  Children being able to shop from our donation tables for gifts to give back to those who are important to them, play games, adopt a stuffed animal, and bring home their own Christmas tree, is a unique opportunity for these kids. Share in the JOY offers an array of activities and events for volunteering and partners with many businesses and non-profit organizations throughout Las Vegas that support the programs offered.

It is truly amazing to be a part of this wonderful organization.
