About Child Haven

Child Haven is a licensed, temporary shelter in Las Vegas for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. Operated by Clark County Family Services, it was designed as a short-term placement (24–72 hours) until a safe foster home or relative placement could be found.

In reality, many children stay much longer. At any given time, 90–120 infants, children, and teens reside at Child Haven, some for weeks or even months, while the court and child welfare system determine their next step.

The facility itself reflects hope and resilience, with colorful murals created by artist Sush Machida alongside the children who have stayed there.

For the children who call Child Haven home, even if only for a short time, the experience can feel overwhelming, uncertain, and isolating. That’s why programs like Share in the JOY Day at Child Haven are so important: to bring meals, fun, and community connection into their lives, reminding them they are not forgotten.

Why Share in the JOY Day Matters

For children living at Child Haven, daily life can feel uncertain and overwhelming. Many arrive suddenly, carrying the weight of abuse, neglect, or loss, and are left waiting—sometimes for months—for their next placement. In the midst of that instability, moments of joy, normalcy, and connection are rare but deeply needed.

Share in the JOY Day at Child Haven brings light into that space. By sharing meals, offering fun activities, and connecting children with caring community partners, we create evenings filled with laughter, belonging, and hope. These experiences remind the kids that they are seen, valued, and supported—not just by the staff caring for them, but by an entire community that believes in their future.

At the same time, Share in the JOY Day opens the door for restaurants, businesses, and local nonprofits to make a real difference. By sponsoring meals, bringing entertainment, or volunteering, our partners can directly impact the lives of children in foster care—showing them that their community cares and is willing to show up for them.

How Businesses Can Get Involved

Share in the JOY Day at Child Haven thrives because of the businesses and community partners who step up to show kids they matter. We’re looking for partners who want to make a direct impact in meaningful, practical ways:

        Meal Sponsors
        Provide one meal annually for 90–120 children and youth.
Ideally include servers to help make the experience special (but not required).
Businesses may showcase their company branding as part of the meal.

        Snack & Dessert Partners
        Provide treats like cookies, cupcakes, or ice cream once a year to bring a little extra JOY to the evening.

        Employment & Career Partners
        Restaurants and businesses willing to hire or offer flexible jobs to youth in care, with understanding of their unique challenges.
Companies that can offer mentorship, internships, or career exposure opportunities.
Resume-building services to help kids draft resumes during events.
Business leaders who can conduct mock job interviews and provide immediate feedback to prepare youth for the workforce.

Future Needs

As Share in the JOY Day grows, we’ll continue to invite partners to step in and meet specific needs that emerge—helping us adapt and provide the best possible support for the kids living at Child Haven.

Together, we can make sure every child not only has a meal and a fun evening, but also a glimpse of possibility and a pathway toward a brighter future.

Get Involved

Share in the JOY Day at Child Haven is not like our typical community events. Because it takes place on the Child Haven campus, all volunteers must go through an orientation process and complete a background check to be cleared to work directly with children.

To make this seamless, Share in the JOY partners with Champions for CASA. CASA volunteers are already trained, background-checked, and deeply committed to supporting youth in care. This partnership not only ensures safety and compliance, but also gives CASA volunteers a chance to connect with children outside of the specific cases they’ve been assigned.
