At Share in the JOY, we believe that every child, no matter their circumstances, deserves the opportunity to feel the power of giving back. That’s the heart behind JOY’s Caring Crew, one of our most inspiring and impactful programs to date.
Launched in 2024, JOY’s Caring Crew was created to give children in vulnerable situations the opportunity to be the givers, not just the recipients. Whether they’re in foster care, living in shelters, or navigating unstable home environments, these young volunteers are stepping up in powerful ways to serve others in their community.
JOY’s Caring Crew sets up hands-on service stations at our community events, giving kids the chance to participate in real, meaningful volunteer work. Through this program, we aim to teach children the value of compassion, empathy, and action while also reminding them that they are capable of creating change.
But we don’t stop there. Every child who completes all of the JOY’s Caring Crew service stations receives a certificate, a medal, and a heartfelt moment on stage, where they’re personally celebrated, recognized and thanked for their contribution. It’s our way of showing them that their efforts matter and so do they.
Because this program isn’t just about giving back.
It’s about unlocking leadership, confidence, and purpose in kids who’ve often been told “no” far more than “you made a difference.”
This program wouldn’t be possible without our two incredible nonprofit partners:
We also rotate in other amazing local nonprofits who guide service projects that are youth-friendly, educational, and impactful, from creating care kits to crafting holiday cards for hospitalized youth.
In just our first year, these incredible young volunteers achieved more than we ever imagined:
🥪 1,050 sandwiches made for those experiencing food insecurity
🐶 501 dog toys crafted for shelter pets and animals living on the streets
🎁 260 care packages assembled for people experiencing homelessness
💌 68 holiday cards created for children staying in the hospital over the holidays
Each one of these acts of service was completed by a child or teen who, in many cases, has faced more challenges than most of us will ever know. And yet, when given the chance to serve they rose to the occasion with compassion, creativity, and JOY.
The ultimate goal of JOY’s Caring Crew isn’t just about a few hours of service, it’s about planting the seeds of lifelong purpose and leadership. When we celebrate and uplift these young volunteers, we’re telling them:
"You have the power to make a difference... no matter your past, no matter your story."
In doing so, we hope to inspire a new wave of change-makers. Kids who know what it feels like to serve, and who carry that experience with them into adulthood.
Because when kids who have every reason to give up choose instead to give back, that’s not just inspiring, it’s transformational.
