A Tale of JOY: How We Transformed a Family’s Life

In the heart of every community lies a beacon of hope. Share in the JOY, is committed to spreading JOY and kindness to those in need, wants to become that beacon. Our mission is more than charity; it’s about restoring dignity, providing comfort, and offering support to families facing unimaginable challenges.

The story of one family touched our hearts deeply and highlights the profound impact of our Furnishing JOY program. Meet a single mother and her two sons, who, despite enduring hardship and adversity, radiate resilience and gratitude.

Oliver, a compassionate neighbor, reached out to us with a plea for help. His neighbor, a survivor of domestic violence, had fled to our community with nothing but courage and determination. Her humble apartment lacked even the most basic necessities – no beds, no kitchen table or chairs, and barely enough cookware to prepare a meal. Their only semblance of furniture was a worn-out, broken-down couch salvaged from a dumpster.

Upon hearing her story, we sprang into action. With our generous inventory of household furnishings donated by the community and the support of Greg and Christin Burda, owners of JunkLuggers of Southwest Las Vegas, we swiftly assembled a team of volunteers to deliver much-needed furniture to Clarence’s neighbor.

What we encountered upon entering her apartment was both heartbreaking and inspiring. Despite the barrenness of her surroundings – literally no furniture in the entire house save for the broken couch –  the single mother greeted us with a smile of gratitude that lit up the room. Her resilience in the face of adversity was nothing short of remarkable.

As we set up beds and arranged the furniture we brought she didn’t once complain about her struggles, but rather spoke of how fortunate she and her sons were to be in a safe place now.

Throughout the delivery, neighborhood children flocked to her doorstep, drawn by her warmth and kindness. She welcomed each one with open arms, sharing what little she had in a bare refrigerator and she laughed as she talked about how they all call her ‘mom’.

This family is the embodiment of why Share in the JOY exists. They are the reason we launched the Furnishing JOY initiative – to provide hope, comfort, and stability to those who need it most. And none of this would be possible without the incredible support of our community.

We are immensely grateful for the donations of gently used items, the generosity of our partners at JunkLuggers, and the unwavering support of Epic Storage in Henderson who provides us with a generous discount that allows us to store the donated items. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of families like Oliver’s neighbor.

As we reflect on this journey of transformation, we are reminded that in the darkest of times, there is always light. And through acts of kindness and compassion, we can illuminate the path to a brighter future and be that beacon for others.

Share in the JOY of making a difference, providing hope and spreading kindness to those who need it most. With your help, we can make a difference, one family at a time.
